Within the bible there is this concept of sacrifice where the people of God sacrificed things to God.
Old Testament sacrifice #
35 You shall remove all its fat, as the fat of the sheep is removed from the sacrifice of well-being, and the priest shall turn it into smoke on the altar, with the offerings by fire to the LORD. Thus the priest shall make atonement on your behalf for the sin that you have committed, and you shall be forgiven.

Side note, this is where you can find the beginnings of the Catholic position of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. In order to give God the correct sacrifice for atonement, it is needed to confess what you did sine there were different sacrifices needed for different sins. The power was in the the priest hands to act in the person of God to determine the correct sacrifice that is needed.
10 And the second he shall offer for a burnt offering according to the regulation. Thus the priest shall make atonement on your behalf for the sin that you have committed, and you shall be forgiven.

Side note, this an be used as a beginnings for the Eucharist where the priest blesses the bread and then provides that to God. This also can be used to show that the priest can reconcile the sins to God and get them forgiven.

This is new testament, but this shoes that without blood shedding there was not going to be sins forgiven. This shows that the Jews now are in a bad spot since the Jews have stopped making blood sacrifices in about 70 AD with the destruction of the Seccond Temple (בֵּית־הַמִּקְדָּשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי, Bēṯ hamMīqdāš hašŠēnī). wiki ref Sacrifices were briefly reinstated during the second century. According to the Halakha (הֲלָכָה, hălāḵā), a collection of Jewish religious laws, a temple is the only place to do a sacrifice.

God’s Promise to Noah

The Day of Atonement

Tell your brother Aaron not to come just at any time into the sanctuary inside the curtain before the mercy seat that is upon the ark, or he will die; for I appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. 3 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering. 4 He shall put on the holy linen tunic, and shall have the linen undergarments next to his body, fasten the linen sash, and wear the linen turban; these are the holy vestments. He shall bathe his body in water, and then put them on. 5 He shall take from the congregation of the people of Israel two male goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering.

Distraction, but verse 32 describes a priest is to be anointed and concentrated by his fathers place. On paper this can be used to argue for priests ordaining priests o the christian religion which would look something like apostolic succession.
Types of offerings:

The Burnt Offering
- Purpose: to cover the offerer’s unholiness and make him acceptable in God’s presence
- Message: Lord, I want to spend some time with you, in your presence, and I pray that you will find me acceptable.

The Grain Offering
- Purpose: to remember the covenant made between God and his people Israel
- Message: Lord, I remember your promises to us and our promises to you. I take our covenant relationship seriously.

The Peace Offering
- Purpose: to eat a covenant meal in fellowship with God
- Message: Lord, I enjoy being in your presence, and I enjoy the peaceful fellowship between us. Thank you for being our God and making us your people.
23 for building an altar to turn away from following the LORD; or if we did so to offer burnt offerings or grain offerings or offerings of well-being on it, may the LORD himself take vengeance.

Offerings of Well-Being

6 If your offering for a sacrifice of well-being to the LORD is from the flock, male or female, you shall offer one without blemish. 7 If you present a sheep as your offering, you shall bring it before the LORD 8 and lay your hand on the head of the offering. - Fulfilled Vow: Alongside a fulfilled vow.

This says that there is no longer a need to sacrifice since Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was the greatest sacrifice.
Connection with the Eucharist short. #
You could look at the Old Testament peace offering and see that those were done to be in the presence of God. Then you can look at the concept around Jesus and his sacrifice there you can see it in a way that aligns with the peace offering in terms of it is what allows you fellowship with God. The peace offering had a few components to it of which one was a clean animal, one was the spilling of blood, one was a meal, and the other was a shared experience. I might be off on the last two. Either way though, you can see there is a similarity between the peace offering and Jesus’ sacrifice. The first two radially apply to Jesus’ sacrifice. He was pure and sinless. The thief on the cross pointed this out in Luke 23:40-41. There are also definitely better Bible verses than that to prove Jesus was sinless. The blood spilling was on the cross where in John 19:34 we can see that happened. There are other similarities between the peace offering like it being a symbol of reconciliation and on paper, the sacrifice of Jesus was a reconciliation. Another similarity is the voluntary nature of it. Both the people in the Old Testament and Jesus did this out of their willingness. Back to the four components of the sacrifice, the last two did not happen on the cross. The eating of the sacrifice did not happen then. This is where it gets interesting again, Matthew 26:26 states “Take eat; this is my body.” This suggests that yes there is a way to consume the sacrifice and make it reflective of the Old Testament peace offering. This at first might sound contradictory to the Hebrews 10:26-31 where it is explained there is no more sacrificing. Is this contradictory since we are participating in Jesus’s sacrifice? It is the sacrifice that happened; it is the last part of it that was not finished. Now I backed myself into another corner. When Jesus says “it is finished” (John 19:30) on the cross, what is he referring to finishing the Lord’s Supper without the physical sacrifice the Lord’s Supper meant nothing. This also furthers the idea of John 6 the idea that unless you eat of the bread of life you have no place in heaven. What does this mean? Participation in the Lord’s Supper is a participation in the sacrifice Jesus made on the cross. It is a part of getting reconciled.
